Two of these books I'm reading (or re-reading in the case of Jane Austen Ruined My Life - it's my pick for next month) are for the book club I'm in. This month's book is Profiles in Courage by John F. Kennedy. I'd never heard of this one, but I've found it to be a really interesting read. It highlights a handful of US Senators through the ages and the critical decisions that required them to exercise courage, even at the cost of their careers and popularity.
That's what I love about being in a book club - I get to read things I wouldn't normally pick up. Take last month for example when we read the fantasy thriller Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. Fantasy isn't often on my to-read list and thrillers never :), but I really enjoyed the book.
So in amongst all the historicals, I find it's nice now and then to try something completely different. Like the four above. Now to finish them!

I can only read one book at a time. To read more than that means the one I'm reading isn't a page turner. And if that's the case, I dump it and move on.
My go to genres are YA and New Adult. Mostly contemporary for both. And no, I'm not in any book clubs. My TBR pile is crazy enough as it is.
I do sometimes read 2 books at a time. One will be fiction, the other, non fiction history.
I can't read two fiction at the same time. I get the stories mixed up...haha.
I sometimes read that many books at one time. I guess I have a short attention span. I also read as much nonfiction as fiction--so that makes it easier to read multiple books.

Loree - Yes, I do think it's easier to read multiple books if one is fiction and the other is nonfiction.
Julie - I wish I could read that many at once on a regular basis, then I'd get through more books faster. :)
Yes, I am totally in the middle of several book at the moment: GONE GIRL (which is totally creeping me out), THE FIVE LOVE LANGUAGES (which is totally thought provoking), WILL GRAYSON, WILL GRAYSON (which is totally a manual on characterization), and last but not least a book that I shall not name here because it has the letters S and E and X in it. And this is a totally respectable blog you got here. (Please don't think I'm a weirdo) ;)

I read the Five Love Languages for kids and found it really interesting.
I always seem to be engrossed in more than one book at a time. I love the title of Jane Austen Ruined My Life! That definitely sounds like a book I would enjoy.
Elizabeth - I really love Beth Pattillo's books - they're funny, and sweet, and always have some tie to Jane Austen or one of her stories.

I tend to read one or two fiction books at a time. If I'm totally in love with what I'm reading, then that's all I can read until I'm done. But sometimes I'll have one in hard copy and one on my Kindle going at the same time. :) My go-to genres are contemporary and historical romance, with a side of suspense thrown in now and then. :)
Melissa - My most favorite of Beth Pattillo's Jane Austen books is The Dashwood Sisters Tell All. But I thoroughly enjoyed Jane Austen Ruined My Life and Mr. Darcy Broke My Heart. I'm really hoping she writes more of these books - they are such a fun, unique, modern take on Jane Austen!
