A Few of My Favorite Things (the autumn version)

I love fall - not just because of the changing leaves or the relief from scorching summer - but because we have some great autumn memories and traditions that make this time of year my favorite.

1. My DH and I were married at the end of September and I really wanted a bridal picture with the fall leaves as background. So in order to get said picture, I hiked - in my wedding dress - up this mountain trail where the leaves had changed sooner than those in the valley. It was so worth it!

2. We love going as a family to one of the fall festivals in the area where the kids can ride on rides, shoot a corncob cannon, see farm animals or do a corn maze.

3. This past weekend we went up the canyon to have some family pictures taken. The mountain air was the perfect temperature, the gold and green colors were gorgeous, and the pizza we brought along for dinner tasted better than normal.

4. While I am not a Halloween-enthusiast, I do enjoy carving pumpkins and seeing my kids dressed up in their costumes.

5. My husband typically does some sort of canning or jam in the fall and I love to see the fruits of his labors (pictured above). He did peaches this year, and not only do they look amazing - they remind me of Autumn sunshine trapped in jars - but they taste terrific.

What are your favorite fall memories? What traditions do you celebrate this time of year?

That picture has my mouth watering. Yum! I love fall, too. And I love what you said about the pizza...Isn't it funny how things taste better when eaten outside? :)

I love fall for so many reasons! I love cooking chili and roasting dogs with great friends.
Every year we celebrate two of our birthdays and have a costume party before trick or treating and it's always so much fun.

My favorite year was when our close friends dressed as Dog the Bounty Hunter and his wife!! Hysterical.

I spend more time outdoors in the fall and that makes me feel closer to God. I just plain ole love fall!

And peaches!

Sarah - It's so true! The outdoors somehow amplifies the food's goodness. Maybe I should try some of the things I don't really like while being up in the mountains and see if it makes a difference. :)

Jessica - Love your list! A costume party does sound fun. My DH and I once dressed up as Morticia and Gomez for a party.

Always wanted to learn how to can.

I love pumpkin picking and I'm partial to Halloween b/c it's my b-day. My family tries to yam it up (yam...ha! Ham, that is.)

I love the changing leaves.

I agree with Loree. A man who cans is unbeatable. My Grams use to can. Boy, I miss her.

Tradition is what you make it when you like in SoFlo. We have two seasons here: hot & hotter. Decor is essential in order to capture the fall feeling. Right now my house is decked in Halloween, complete with magic wands and all. :)

Wendy - How fun to have your birthday on Halloween! My youngest sister's birthday is the day before.

Loree - Yes, my DH sometimes puts my domestic skills to shame. :)

Mina - I've been thinking just today about putting up the fall decorations. I love the idea of wands!

Since I live in Las Vegas-the land of no color- I love the Fall almost exclusively because of the brief moment of beautiful cool air we get. ANd Halloween. It is my absolute favorite.

I really like taking the kids to the pumpkin patch. And, I love seeing them dress up and act silly for Halloween.

Those peaches look, oh so yummy!

Jessie - Cooler weather is a definite plus.

Jenny - My oldest has already decided what he wants to be for Halloween - even bought, with his own money, colored hair gel for it. :)

Those canned peaches are simply beautiful...
My mom, sisters, and I canned pears this fall, and spending the day with them, aproned and gabbing, in the kitchen, is definitely something I'm looking forward to next year.

You are too cute. I just put a picture of all the peaches I canned on my family blog. I LOVE FALL too! I am so jealous of your bridal picture with the leaves. That sounds heavenly.

Kim - We'll have to try pears, and maybe next year, I can learn how to can. :)

Mark - Maybe that's another reason I like Fall. It precedes the holidays - more great things to look forward to.

Jolene - I'm drooling over them too. :) Even had some for lunch.

Abby - That's awesome you canned peaches this year too!

YUM! I wish I lived where you do for autumn. FLA is not quite so beautiful, but the weather is gorgeous, even if only a few of the trees change in color.
It's my fave time of year too. And our anniversary is Nov. 9th. I bet your wedding pics are amazing!
