Interest in Pinterest

My curiosity about Pinterest has been piqued - from next to nothing a few days ago to quite interested. I took a sneak peek, and the home decor stuff alone, was a strong selling point! But I want to hear your opinions.

Have you joined Pinterest? If so, what do you like about it? What do you use it for the most? How do you keep it from becoming a time vacuum, but still get a lot out of it?

I'm on it but I don't live there as some seem to do. Geez, I wonder where they find the time to browse the net all day and pin stuff? lol

I do like it b/c when I'm researching, I can pin things about my WIP on a special board as well as music I listen to and books I read...and recipes--which I don't have many but when I'm looking for new things it's nice to just jump to my board, click on it and have that recipe at my fingertips.

Love it. I'm on it prob. five min. a day or less. I think it depends if you're a visual person. If you are, it really seems to appeal. I intend to do more with my novels on there someday, but for now I just see it as another way for folks to get to know me w/out having to post intimate family photos.

No, no interest here. I love words and reading, but visual things are not me. Plus, I don't think I'd be interested in pinning stuff up...I don't know. I'm pretty happy with blogger, FB and my foray into GoodReads. :-)

Jess - That was another appeal for me - pinning pictures that will help me visualize my WIP.

Wendy - I'm a visual person, so yes, I love the idea of pictures to inspire me.

Jessica - I'm thinking about trying GoodReads too. We'll see. I don't want social media overload. :)

I'm not on Pinterest solely because I have trouble enough keeping up with other social media. :) But I hear it's a blast. (I also hear there's some legal questions out there about copyright and such...) But yeah, the people I know who are on it love it.

I won't comment about the time vacuum, but i absolutely LOVE being able to have an instant visual to all of my organized ideas. I like being able to pin things right now (like home decor) and later go back to the ideas I liked when I go to redecorate a room. I come across so many ideas that favorite ones tend to be forgotten if I haven't seen them in a while - which doesn't have to happen with pinterest. Right now, I probably use it most for food and clothing ideas, but if I were in a different situation, I would probably use it more for home decor ideas, crafting, and party planning (not that I don't pin those ideas anyway) :).

LOVE. That is all. :) You do have to limit your time on there though.

I'm not on there yet, but I can feel the vacuum sucking me in. :) Rachelle Gardner did a couple awesome posts about it earlier this week and made a convincing argument in favor of it.

I haven't joined it. Honestly, I just don't have the time right now. I was sent an invite, but never used it. I have a cork board next to my desk with all my favorite things on it.

I just joined on Monday, no lie! I have to say that I'm not sure it's for me. I could sit and look at cute cupcakes, or I could write. Writing will always win.

I could look at some cute home decor, but I'm not really into that, and I'd rather watch Chopped.

So I'm not sure yet. The pull to join was strong, but the pull to pin isn't so much...

So we'll see!

Melissa - That's the reason I haven't joined Twitter yet. :) There's not enough time to do them all.

Katrina - I love the organization part - not a big surprise to you, right? :) And as I said above, I'm a visual person so I like being able to see the ideas.

Chantele - I'm glad to hear you like it! And yes, I will be sure to limit my time on there. Or try, really hard. :)

Sarah - Funny you should mention Rachelle's posts. That's what got me to seriously consider it. She made it sound not only worth it, but fun too.

Loree - I have a bulletin board with some inspiration stuff on it, but it's in my hubby's home office.

Elana - Funny that you just joined! I guess we were feelin' the same vipe. :)

I have a Pinterest time limit, and only when I have a block of time to spare. I like it for decorating my empty house.

Jessie - A time limit is a fab idea! I think I'm going to need one. :)

Pinterest was very nearly the ruin of me!!! I joined over Christmas break and a month later, when I was still spending one-two hours A DAY on it, I finally deleted my account in a moment of rare strength. I still visit a few of my favorite boards there, but i've got the addiction under control now.

It's like having access to a million free magazines WITHOUT ADs.

There are so many cool things you could do with Pinterest for book promotion and even organizing ideas/outlines/character sketches for writing. But alas, not for me, at least, not now :(

Nice blog. As a lover of words you might be interested in the word play involved in cryptic crosswords. I am doing a series of posts on solving cryptic clues. This was the first one I did. http://caroleschatter.blogspot.co.nz/2012/01/cryptic-crosswords-solving-hints-1.html Hope you enjoy.

Lady Outlaw

No one would ever imagine a fresh-faced young woman could be robbing stage bandits of their ill-gotten fortunes. But Jennie Jones is desperate to save her family's ranch from foreclosure. And the risks seem worth it, until her upright new ranch hand offers a glimpse of how much is really at stake.

Former bounty hunter Caleb Johnson is ready for a new, clean start. With a woman like Jennie, he could build a future there in Utah territory. But only if his gentle faith can guide her in a choice between the land she's fought so hard to save and a future by his side.
